Nobody has made that assumption - certainly not the club, if that is your assertion.
The number of evening games has just been used as a gauge by some to indicate what *may* be a reasonable number of upgrades permissible.
It is policed so it's not a case of "never". Myself and someone else on this thread have already indicated that we've seen it.
So maybe it's "rarely policed". Maybe you just got lucky. Maybe the steward(s) in question when you entered realised you were with your daughter, noticed she had an...
Not at all - the entry gates have coloured lights on them and they light according to the status of the ticket presented. Stewards beyond the barriers are able to determine whether the card matches the punter. I've seen adults sent back to the ticket office for entering with a child ticket...
I don't think it's quite as clear cut as that because, as you say, it doesn't resolve the 'reserve the seat next to me just in case' folk, although I can't imagine there are too many people who actually do this.

However, you've won me over on one point.
Until this season, fans could upgrade as many times as required throughout a season. The club charter stated: "In instances where the Ticket Office agrees an upgrade can...

2. Gillingham weren't the Archer years, they were the...
