So this is now a fixed video where you can watch a bit of Archer's spell. Go to 30:45 to watch first slip lose a couple of teeth missing a catch....ouch.
Well that has been entertaining!!
First the bowler at the other end found the edge which hit first slip straight in the mouth, he appeared to be picking a tooth off the floor before being taken off.
Jofra has just bowled a gorgeous over, taking a wicket and getting the batsmen playing and...
That we know of. I note Warner didn't walk when he clearly nicked it. You'd think he'd try to rebuild his reputation and start walking like Gilchrist used to, show a bit of honesty over and above the call of duty given what he'd done. Not a chance.
When he was made captain in 2017 he averaged 50.8, scored 1563 runs (not sure all were as captain which happened in July).
Last year he still averaged 41.2.
More than the captaincy I think it's England's insecurities opening that is the bigger factor and losing too many early wickets. Root is...
Root is having his worse year since he started playing test cricket. 10 innings, averaging 29.5 compared to his overall average of 49.
Like Bairstow, we need 2015 and 2016 Joe Root who averaged 60, hit 6 hundreds and chalked up 2800 runs!
Need to get back to his 2016 test stats where he was arguably one of the best batsmen in the world averaging 59, 8 50s, 3 100s, scoring 1470 test runs that year.
His form has dropped off 2018 and 19, but the ability is there. He still got 2 100s last year in tests, and 609 runs.
The Aussies have already been decisive in leaving Starc out of this test, which most of us thought wow, that is a big call, however Cummins got 7 wickets well supported by Pattinson and Siddle - they picked a team for conditions - we need to do the same for Lords.
I agree, and a point before the test started we were a bowler light even with Jimmy fit.
One thing I would say is that other than Smith, the difference was we took 3 wickets with spin, they took 9.
The other is outright pace, Cummins got 7 wickets, we had no plan B when the pitch went flat.
Shake up needed. Foakes been unlucky not to have the gloves back in this team. Is Bairstow + Buttler in this side 2 into 1 spot?
Leach to come in for Ali, Archer in for Jimmy, Foakes in for Buttler.
Bairstow has it in him to bat different innings, he has had a poor test both gloves and bat...
It's not like he was bogged down for 3 hours, he's batted for an hour and 20mins. Lunch is 40mins away. That is just a shot of someone unable to cope with the mental test.
You might get out to a freak ball, but don't give your wicket away. That was shocking.
