That documentary was an eye opener. This shrew has such a high metabolic rate, after sleeping for 2 hours, it basically has 5mins to kill something to eat. It is a mentalist in those 5 mins and will fight / kill anything it comes across. Amazing. Does need a nap though straight after...
Dear GNLL,
Myself and Stumpy Tim, under rule 10.2.6 subsection 6 para iiv, would like to change our vote in this group from Orca to Shrew.
Thanking you in advance.
Wish I could get my vote back. JCL has done a great job on the shrew. Crushing the skull to save on its venom. Nice. Shakespeare knew what he was talking about.
Presumably the Orca risks the shark getting a decent attack in by not letting itself be flipped over. As you yourself are championing, the GWS is a fearsome predator so the Orca must be entertaining a huge amount of risk in going for a GWS. Let's face it, even dolphins can give sharks a hard...
But the first human observation of an Orca attacking a GWS, was when there was estimated to be 100 or so GWS's hunting seals, and a single Orca was seen fighting, killing then eating a GWS. The other 100 GWS's swam off in terror!
Hard is having a fight with something that could easily cause you injury or kill you.
Sharks shit themselves at the sight of a dolphin, and make a tasty snack for a killer whale.
It's all you need to know about sharks really. They are fearsome predicators, much admired killing machines, but...
While it is an obvious choice and is a big apex predator, the more we learn about the Orca, the more we realise it's not just hard, it is prodigiously intelligent hard. It will work out how to kill depending on the prey and the conditions. Not only that, it will tell all its mates how to do it...
