Christian and pagan holidays are interwined. Understandably, early Christians latched their holidays onto the traditions that were prevalent at the time. That's a much easier sell to would-be converts than telling them they have to ditch long-standing rituals and take up the Christian ones...
Thank God for that.
It's about time these festivals went back to their pagan roots (they've always been celebrated in a secular way in my house anyway).
I'll have some classic lemon and sugar this evening but will lunch will be a more elaborate pork and prawn bánh xèo, which is basically a Vietnamese crepe.
Any vegans out there might want to have a go at the bánh xèo (minus the pork and prawn, of course). No milk or eggs, just flour, turmeric...
