Some good add ins.
I didn't include Simon Yates myself because I thought the White jersey competition was pretty weak. Meintjes is a naturally defensive rider and his TT isn't up to much. Had Buchmann and Latour been in top form we might have had a better competition.
I agree on Cannondale...
Your Tour Highs and Lows then? Off the top of my head...
HIGHS
French cycling in general. Clearly still on the upward curve with this new generation:
Bardet & AG2R - Gave it their best shot I think with what they had. It's not pro cycling manager and GC riders can't just launch repeated...
It's been moved to Sky, on repeat. I think the deal they signed is for the next 5 years as well
Just a bit of fun for a contributor from almost Hampshire
Top marks for effort!
I particularly like the Adam Smith reference.
Blimey, I might buy myself a full Sky kit ( for the marginal gains you understand) and vote Tory at the next election now. I think I've finally seen the light!
Exactly this.
If I was there I'd have to restrain myself not to join in with the booing to be honest.
I quite like Froome. He's got cojones and is a very well rounded rider, exciting even on the right set of circumstances. But Sky are fast killing cycling a bit like they killed football for...
First of all, there's not a big enough font on here to write that IF with unfortunately. I'll be absolutely gobsmacked if Froome cracks tomorrow.
About a minute better than the rest is the general consensus for Froome on that TT. There is a climb in the middle of it that takes some of his...
Point of order. He was never going to let up then having done his bit. He was trying to put as much time into Aru just like the rest of them (Barguil aside). He knows his TT isn't too good as well so needs to get as much time on the road as possible, without overtaking Froome of course
Real shame for Kittel. I think the poor bloke was going down with a bug anyway and that crash today, along with brilliant riding from Matthews and Sunweb, was the straw that broke the camels back. Have to feel for him, although he won't be too grumpy what with 5 stage wins to come away with...
If FDJ had taken Kevin Reza to this years Tour, unless they sacrificed him for Demare on that stage as well, which I doubt, then they'd at least have a few top ten stage finishes in the team rather than the unmitigated disaster they have had. With the sprint field left in this race now I'd...
My worst fears for Aru's podium chances confirmed today. He wasn't looking good going into the Alps and it looks like the lack of race of days have caught up with him. I'd be amazed if he doesn't lose more time tomorrow. Depending on how badly he cracks and how well Bardet and Landa TT, I can...
When you say "interesting" and "livelier", do you mean in a watching motor racing or snooker kind of interesting?
I can barely contain my excitement!
Yep, fair enough, it probably was race naivety as much as anything else from Aru there.
I'm probably over reacting a bit because, even though we knew it already, it's back to business as usual with Sky Zzzzzzzzzzz for the rest of the race.
Only glimmer of hope still is if AG2R can continue to...
I think Froome was very clever neutralising any Aru and Bardet attack.
Aru and Bardet were happy for UAE and Jumbo ride to protect their GC, but as was said before the stage, the moment for those two attack was 3km or less to go on the final climb when it got steep.
I said to the kids whilst we...
The flip side of that coin is now Aru has allies from other teams that he may not have had so readily before. Still going to be bloody hard for him to defend alone against this Sky team regardless. Cataldo and Fugslang crashing is as gutting as AVV and Porte going.
Cracking stage of racing! :clap2:
Well deserved and fairy tale winner...Chapeau Barguil!
And we have a decent GC race on with a spot of leadership intrigue to boot. Good stuff!
