I completely agree with you, and while that might make both of us miserable curmudgeons, so be it. I was desperate for match pints when i was 20-odd but now i welcome the chance for people to sober up a bit, cos of the risk of nonsense/violence/vomit/thrown pints/everything. Or do what Germany...
