Nope, it's still very much the case that players are trained not to shoot from distance from kids through to the top level of the professional game. The chance of scoring from closer in is so much greater plus you reduce the chance of losing the ball and being susceptible to transitions.
Not shooting from long range is a trend across all of football, not just at the Albion because it's statistically proven it's generally a stupid thing to do. Teams are far more productive overall by keeping the ball and trying to score from closer in.
Massive game for RDZ tonight. Although Brentford away is not easy, as a team in 15th place who have a smaller squad and have had worse luck with injuries than us this season (plus the Toney suspension), it’s one of the more winnable games we have left in our difficult run in.
