Totally agree with this. As much as the politicians who backed Leave (or became Leave backers after the 52% result) kept telling us "everyone knew what they were voting for", I'm absolutely convinced of the following (based on anecdotal conversations both before and after the referendum):

Oh good - Therese Coffey has resigned as Environment Secretary. Maybe Sunak can appoint someone who actually gives a toss about improving how we treat the country we live in?
The problem for Sunak is appointing Cameron is a very easy "playing politics" target. It telegraphs that there's no talent left amongst the Tory MPs that can be trusted with such a top cabinet role (as does appointing Cleverly to Home Sec, IMO - that man does not live up to his name).
Should never have got the job back. And while her sacking today is jolly good news, it's also far too late now. Damage has been done.
... FFS. From everything I've seen, that's not going to be much better. Hopefully not for the same reasons and we might see a change (softening) in rhetoric...
