They were carrying rape alarms, which they hand out to vulnerable women, at night. The police were so twitchy they thought they were aiming to disrupt the procession. Seeing as demonstrators were also arrested in Trafalgar Square for carrying placards with Not My King, it doesn’t surprise me...
