The thing I find hard to fathom is that the underlying principle of re-establishing the U.S. manufacturing base is not a bad idea. I just don't understand how that can be achieved by destroying the economy?
If you only have contact with the member whose views align to your own then nothing will change. MPs need to be exposed to the opinions and needs of all their constituents irrespective of their political leanings - a perfect example of where DEI is a good thing as it happens.
The larger multi-member constituencies would break that link between the MP and their community that we currently have (yes, I'm aware some constituencies have 'invisible' MPs). Thanks for explaining how independents could be included though, that was interesting.
With FPTP every constituency gets exactly the MP they voted for. I think this is lost on the PR fans, who I have never had a decent explanation from of how you'd get anybody into Parliament who isn't a member of a political party.
Your post read to me like you felt that this country was still some kind of intolerant backwater, which it clearly isn't. That annoys me, we live in a lovely, tolerant and welcoming country, and people from all over the world want to come and live and work here because it.
