Has to be said that Corbyn did give Johnson the GE he wanted when Labour were polling in the mid 20s. Although I think that was more to do with Corbyn and Momentum's delusion than any sort of democratic integrity.
Yes, it's not ideal that a couple of hundred MPs get to choose the next PM, but at least they had to get elected to that position so it's considerably more democratic than it being decided by a few thousand people who've done no more than pay a membership fee, some of who wouldn't even qualify...
Various people have been claiming that since yesterday morning. It’s possibly a desperate attempt to get more MPs to support him if they think he’s going to win and can get in the next boss’s good books. The public declarations of support are nowhere near 100.
One definite positive of Johnson becoming PM again is that it massively increases the chances of an early GE. Even if he squirms out of the privileges committee there'll be more stuff to come, not to mention the possibility of red-wall conservative MPs crossing the floor.
I gained a bit of respect for Sunak during the previous leadership campaign in that he didn’t take the route of campaigning purely on populist fiscal policies - ie low tax - and accurately predicted what would happen with Truss’s disaster.
I could just about tolerate him for another 2 years...
