I would suggest a LOT of it has to do with 'Boris' announcing he was going, having been invited by the organisers.
A whole load of ego at stake with politicians.
Mind you, it'll be interesting to watch the 'it's just all for show – world leaders don't need to be there' people who came out in...
Eh? I WAS talking about the economy.
I don't know why he's not going - is he planning on not taking any trips abroad because [insert domestic issue] is more important and he NEEDS to stay in the UK?
Seems a bit odd to me...
Had a quick look on Twitter and saw a few 'Sunak 1, Starmer 0'-type comments after PMQs.
Then I watched it and it was the usual inane shouting at each other and not answering questions. There were no winners there, I'm afraid.
Makes a change from MPs sycophantically kissing one or other candidate's arse (and then switching sides, in some cases), I guess.
Still a pointless statement. The fact that a party has such as strong sub-group as the ERG means that all this talk about 'unity' in the party is complete nonsense...
I think he'll be back as opposition leader, which means he *could* be back as Prime Minister at some point, but I think it's unlikely. He's even managed to piss off and/or let down the people who were supporting him, which has, in turn, made them look a bit silly. They won't forget that!
Instead of being binned off, I thought Blair had agreed with Brown to step down? I'm probably wrong as back then I had even less of an interest in politics than I do now, but I do recall some kind of pact between them. Johnson was forced to go, but it was of his own doing – as I've said, if he'd...
This 'race' has been far too much about the person – and, to an extent, the party – than what is actually best for the country. That, to me, speaks volumes. Party members and MPs looking after themselves and everyone else can get tae fcuk.
If I was Sunak I would steer WELL clear of him. I wouldn't trust him at all.
Hilarious if Johnson doesn't end up standing because he didn't get the votes required. Not that they'll care, but some people who publicly backed him might feel a bit silly!
He never actually used the words "resign" or "resigning" in his leaving speech, did he? I remember there being some doubt he would actually move out of Downing Street.
I think he's taking a bit of a gamble by running. If I was him, I'd lie low, wait until the enquiry finishes and let some...
