Probably a nostalgia thing, as I loved this when it was on the radio when i was a kid. The Alton Ellis and Trinity pre-cursors are brilliant too, but Althea and Donna's one hit wonder never fails to put me in a good mood.
I was moved by all the suggestions, but in the end I chose "Scatter Me" by TC&I, which I had never heard before. A really good song, as I would expect from Colin Moulding. So @Quebec Seagull it's over to you, and welcome to NSC by the way.
Some lovely, varied choices so far. A couple have bent the "a song" bit, but I'll turn a blind eye seeing as we're talking about your last chance to grab the aux cord, as the kids say. I'll make my decision around teatime on Monday.
Obrigado Razzoo. Well let me see, perhaps a slightly macabre one, given that Halloween and Day of the Dead are upon us. Give me a song that you would like played at your funeral/memorial service/f*** off party. It can be as flippant, sincere, or irreverent as you want of course. This might find...

I have the feeling that HWT might not be appreciative of Starewhey 2 Heavin' (this thread is a bit like that game Apples to Apples eh?), so I opted for a song by a group that basically make a living (I hope) from building toward a scary (beautiful?) crescendo. This is actually one of Godspeed...
I could have gone for Big Mama Thornton again, and her song Ball & Chain, which became a hit for Janis Joplin (see the pattern?) However, I couldn't see beyond this stunning song:
Seen MBV do that a couple of times too, and the section of which you write seems to go on longer than 5 minutes: an awesome experience akin to sticking your head in a jet engine (less heat though.) The first time was probably in '92, and my brother and his girlfriend had partaken of some kind of...
