Ok, but I'm pretty sure the semi automatic system doesn't just check for an offside of a player that touches the ball. It would then be up to the ref or the VAR to decide if the player was interfering in play.
VAR isn't great but then what has previously spoiled the game for me is declining ref...
As disappointing as Ali Mac's was, it was correct. Juve would have been correct had the officials spotted the defender marking the non existent winger!! Can't remember Sterling's.
Let's be honest, most offside decisions normally only relate to the player scoring the goal. If an automated system can identify the offside far quicker than some prats at Stockley Park drawing lines then it's up to the ref to decide if they are interferring! Doesn't eliminate human opinion...
I think you've missed the point TIMBA was making. The vast sums of money involved in Asian betting markets opens the door to corruption and VAR should be eliminating dodgy decisions which might not be down to subjectivity but more the potential of a brown envelope in a back pocket!!
As for his...
It's a good point about non league players but then they don't tend to retire at the same age as professionals. Think they just work their way down the leagues as the legs start to slow down. Let's be honest, unless you were in need of a job I suspect most would prefer to keep playing for as...
Have to agree with you. If refs applied the rules from the first minute to the last and used the rules that are available, a lot of crap would be cut out. If refs booked players who crowd them then they will stop doing it but let's not forget their boss is Mike Riley who famously was trying to...
So why were refereeing standards in decline before VAR was introduced? We had no officials at the 2018 World Cup which was a first in my lifetime.
I'm for VAR because our refs are and were crap but there is a lot that can be done to make it much better. My concern is that I believe the PGMOL...
Whilst I accept that it was offside, I agree that there was no need for the ref to review it. The point was that you commit an offside offence is you are in an offside position and you play or attempt to play a ball near you. The video ref can clearly see Mwepu attempt to play the ball so no...
The point is to try and improve the standard and to get consistency. Understanding their train of thought might explain something or open up a discussion as to how to improve if it was a mistake. For example the Coutingo incident yesterday and Lee Mason inexplicably blowing his whistle as Dunk...
Agree with a lot of what you say. I dont watch much rugby other than the 6 nations but it does seem that the top rugby refs are very good which, in my opinion, can't be said of football top referees in this country. It must be remembered that rugby refs have a bit of protection from the...
Think the players are obliged to do interviews but it's the choice of the broadcaster who they put in front of the cameras. There are usually in excess of 22 players involved but only one ref!
Reason is transparency. As for the odd manager, I think you'll find they are contractually obliged to give post match interviews. Why not the same for those making key decisions on the pitch and who are earning substantial salaries off the back of the success of the EPL?
Your second paragraph...
