[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

I'm guessing it probably can't. I think soon enough it will be entirely automatic

Works like this: "The new technology uses 12 dedicated tracking cameras mounted underneath the roof of the stadium to track the ball and up to 29 data points of each individual player, 50 times per second, calculating their exact position on the pitch. The 29 collected data points include all...

Serie A to introduce the semi-automatic offside tech in October. Probably will see in the PL after the World Cup, I would imagine.

Ok, that was an exaggeration but "everywhere else it seems to be working reasonably well" and "it works well in other countries" are common comments. Everywhere else and in other countries, they don't seem to agree with that take.

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

As I can't see the clip due to being a ****ing foreigner I don't know which commentators these are, but on the (English-speaking) stream I watched yesterday during the game, just before the game restarted after ruling out the goal, both commentators said they thought the ref made the wrong...

It is if you earned £20-50k per week for years

For £70k? The man doesn't strike me as Mr Sensible exactly but I know most ref organisations has been pushing for ex-players to go in that direction so he could be a pioneer. Unless its just talk.

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

They frequently disagree with eachother on refs decisions, and sometimes are not aware of the entire law book, so I don't really see how that is the magical solution. And as said previously, what ex-PL-player would do that for £70k a year?

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

Yup. VAR had a (very quick) look at it and decided to shrug and move on, probably since the game was already done. If it had been 2-2 at that point they would probably had a closer look.

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

Not much I imagine. VAR is a result of fans, managers and players demanding perfection and computers are going to be able to provide that sooner rather than later. In elite football, the ref in 20 years is going to be a bloke sitting on the sideline in front of a screen.

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

The take that it is working well in other leagues is based on absolutely nothing. Follow the debate from Serie A, La Liga etc. and you'll find its the exact same shit.

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

Disagree. Three points for a win, one for a draw, really should avoid removing points for diving or giving points for making a few nice dribbles or something... but suspending the player would be a good penalty.

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

The only good thing about VAR is that we're seeing substantially less diving in the penalty area. One of the most frustrating aspects of football was seeing someone getting a penalty without zero contact at all. Other than that it is junk. Don't really think its the refs fault - the...

Ruling out a world class goal because some severly Aspergian muppet desperately had to find a hair or a nail being offside... thats the real "absolute joke".

https://www.premierleague.com/referees - There is a robust system for measuring Select Group performance over the season. Each Premier League match is evaluated by a former senior referee who scrutinises every decision using the match footage and event data to measure the officials’ technical...

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

Yeah and any manager also earn ten or more times more than the refs and obviously that means you can ask them for more. Lots of people who make key decisions on the pitch - namely the players - don't do interviews post-games. Usually it is just one or two blokes, and usually not the ones who...

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

Yes, and equally each ref performance is reviewed by supervisors and they get advise on how to do things better. As for why they are not asking for it to happen... perhaps not many of them are media whores who likes to speak on TV with millions of people watching. Perhaps they just want to ref...

Every club in Sweden is owned by the members of the club, so if the members don't want it, the clubs don't want it, and the clubs vote on those matters and are pretty much forced to do what their members say as otherwise the board will be voted off in the annual members meetings in the clubs.

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

Yeah. Sometimes, once in a while, they are asked to explain their decisions rather than tell them "their feelings about the game" or about a decision by the ref etc.

Zero, not been abroad other than Denmark since Covid started, and the Swedish fans don't want VAR so we haven't got it in Allsvenskan.
