[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

The main tv camera was on the other side of the pitch and the VAR picture on TV just showed what was going on in the box. Clearly they didn't have it set up to view the width of the pitch. It's a catastrophic individual error, but also it's system over-riding an individual, the lino, who...

I was watching the Salernitana game. I wanted them to win of course, but Juve scored a perfectly good winning goal. The selling point of VAR is to eliminate the terrible decision. It's actually doing the opposite. It's taking good decisions and reversing them. It's creating controversy...

The implication there is that the women's officials are much better than the men's. I'm not ruling that out, but seems improbable, especially as a pathway does exist to the top of the men's game. More likely VAR did intervene but as you had less riding on the outcome you remember it less.

We agree. It needs to be a concerted effort with all parties bought in and the clubs and players involved. The structures would need to be put in place for this attempt at discipline not to be a forgotten by September flash in the pan as we've seen so many times before.

They don't do it because they know they would never be backed by the football authorities and would be at Port Vale the following week. Giving out 6 cards in one incident and finishing matches with 9 v 9 is seen as weak refereeing. The opposite should be true. I like most other football fans...

The real VAR travesty of that game was the overturning of a cast iron penalty, Pogba on Connolly. Absolutely no chance that gets changed if it goes the other way. The big clubs will not want VAR removed.

This all gives rise to the question, who actually wants it? The match going public? - Well clearly not. A large percentage despise it. Very few are sticking up for it and fewer still offering realistic suggestions for improvements other than "it needs to be used better". The TV viewer...

It's a fair point, that referees aren't given enough respect at grass roots levels up to the professional game. The authorities should be much stronger in supporting referees to stand up for themselves. Any raised voice to a ref or deliberate touch, even a hand on a shoulder, a straight red...

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

That's what will probably happen at this meeting that's supposed to be happening. They will have to go through a PR charade of making a change. But it will be deckchairs on the Titanic rearranging exercise. It will make no improvement whatsoever. Any changes which could have a material effect...

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

I don't see that the referees themselves or as a group have any say in the way that VAR is run or have any power to protect their decision making position. The PL quite rightly knows that for VAR to have any chance of acceptance from the football world, the primacy of the referee as the...

This could also be achieved with strong retrospective sanctions. My opinion is that if a player is shown to have clearly simulated to try to gain a penalty or initiate a red card, that action should cost the club a league point. Let's see if managers send out their players to dive and cheat then.

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

It is all about TV, and I sense that the TV companies quite like it. Any criticism of VAR is very muted and any pundits suggesting it's removal are quickly hushed up. It's less bad as a TV viewer because you get to watch 5 or 6 replays of that incident and generally listen to the discussion...

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

Just remember what it was like before .... You never had the embarrassment of defenders writhing on the ground in a desperate attempt to get VAR to review the goal just scored. You could properly go up for a goal, give it all with your celebration (making sure you've had a glance at the lino...

But they've been continually trying to tweak or improve it since it's inception and it's still dragging the game down to new lows. We've got the officials we've got, so any solution along the lines of "we keep it, but use it better" are obviously doomed to failure.

But you're not getting the right outcome. Look at these cock up's that have been happening this weekend. You're getting the wrong decisions made a very long time after the event. There was also a penalty in the Brentford v Leeds game this weekend that took about 5 mins If they were taking 5...

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

Hmmm. Nope. It's the system. Even if it were run by the greatest officials in football history it would still be an abomination which blights the game. For lots of reasons, the biggest one being it reduces the impact celebration of a goal. One of the great feelings of life, diluted. That...

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

Just got to this thread and not going to read all through it, but it absolutely is VAR as a system to blame. Any system which routinely takes forever to pour through the minutiae is just totally incompatible with football fan culture. They've had years to tweak it or make it better and if they...
