[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

Yeah, that disappeared when the IT department took over the running of it in the interests of the gambling community.

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

It’s great to see VAR working so well in Europe as per a lot of early quotes on this thread. It’s quite clearly just a case of crap refs in England spoiling the most perfect system ever invented….

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

I think I am saying much the same as him. I don’t doubt the authorities are trying to make decisions ‘better.’ Separately I don’t think it’s possible so doesn’t achieve the certainty required by gambling syndicates and it comes at too high a cost for the match going fan. Come to think of it tv...

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

I strongly suspect your first paragraph is absolutely correct. An attempt to legitimize and therefore increase volumes in the Asian football gambling market. The game has been stolen from match going fans. We will have to agree to disagree on your second point. VAR is being exposed at the moment...

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

I asked for data on this earlier in the thread but didn’t get a reply. Nobody seems to know where this often repeated assertion that VAR works better in other leagues comes from.

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

That would be quite a big change to the process. At the moment they hunt down ‘clear and obvious errors’ by spending sometimes four and a half minutes scouring slow motion replays. Is anyone on here defending that because that’s nothing to do with how good or bad the VAR refs are ?

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

How would you implement it so that we can celebrate goals when they are scored, after a quick glance at the ref ?

Yep, four and a half minutes to make a bloody decision in a football match !! I’ve cheered up now though….

Well, VAR is clearly shit. The game today ruined.

I don’t think a dialogue with us will improve the standard, that’s all. It will just generate more headlines. The dialogue is with their assessors and bosses which is likely to be a lot more constructive.

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

What are these ideas of putting microphones on referees and post match interviews supposed to achieve ? There will just be more to disagree with. It won’t make me feel better as it won’t change the outcome. Go to the match…take the rough with the smooth…move on.

They are your opinions and that’s fair enough. I wondered where the data was to back them up though. I think that is more reasonable than just liking the post.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of VAR it is a fact that there is a debate to be had. You don’t lose an argument before it has started unless you live somewhere like Russia. Football (just like life) is constantly evolving and it could evolve in a direction unexpected to you.

Lots of likes for this post but nobody has asked to see the evidence for VAR working better abroad…they have just accepted the assertion.

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

That’s the point I’m trying to make to you. I don’t think there is any technology involved other than some bloke watching the tele. They could ring me for all the good it would do. Bearing all off that in mind and with me agreeing we need to improve refereeing my conclusion is get rid of VAR as...

You HAVE to be joking :) Have you ever been to a football match ?

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

VAR was sold to us as improving decisions. Seems the goalposts have been moved in justification for it. If it has nothing to do with technology then what’s the point of the technology ? You think the refs are crap so why have more of them watching the tele and ruining the game ? What’s the point ?

[Football] "It's not VAR, it's the people running it"

Yep, that’s kind of what I was saying. Defenders of VAR seem to think football decisions can be settled by technology when you and I agree it is subjective. Just seen that disallowed West Ham goal. Why on earth was VAR involved. For once I agree with Shearer. Mistakes happen so at least let the...
