Excellent review MB (as always). Aftersun really does stay with you, in a good and bad way. The two leads and the debut director are all outstanding but in a very natural, unshowy way.

Aftersun British film, see mostly in the late 90s about a dad taking his 11 year old daughter to a holiday resort. Not a lot happens but it's fantastic.

Thoroughly enjoyed Decision To Leave Korean film noir by director of Oldboy and The Handmaiden. Twisty, steamy, looks amazing

I watched X last night. I thought it was fine, if a little predictable

Just watched See How They Run Highly entertaining 1950s set comedy murder mystery set at the 109th production of The Mousetrap. Excellent cast, more laughs than all recent comedies I can remember and a lot of fun

I enjoyed Nope. As said before the less you know the better but it was certainly unlike any other film you'll see this year

I watched Moonfall on Prime. It's one of the stupidest films ever made, but highly enjoyable

So a big budget sequel that's supposed to be terrible has had a lot of money? That's a first. I'm sure "the critics" will be mortified

His docs are very good. And I recommend The Man Who Never Was, its not chock a block with action but I remember it being very good

I would completely agree with this. I enjoy mindless action now and then, but Bay's are all annoying and rubbish. Somehow The Rock works, largely due to Connery and Cage and the rumours that the script was heavily rewritten by Aaron Sorkin and then Tarantino.

Without sounding rude why would you watch a Michael Bay film then?

They are showing all the Bonds in order. Odeon in Brighton seems to be the only local place https://www.odeon.co.uk/odeon-scene/james-bond-films-in-order-007-list/:yawn:

Watched Nightmare Alley. As with most stuff by Guillermo del Toro, I don't really understand the hype. It's a pretty standard film noir, with the odd touch of gore, but Bradley Cooper is lightweight compared to most of the old Noir leads, the twists are obvious to anyone who's ever seen a noir...

Just seen Ava and Ali. Love story about working class Bradford involving change and growth. But actually fun, beautifully filmed, full of properly drawn characters and a very good varied soundtrack

Saw a double bill of the a Beatles live thing and Boiling Point. Boiling Point is excellent, a genuine single shot take, but not gimmicky. Stephen Graham is a head chef with issues, a few weeks before Christmas on a very stressful night at a new restaurant. He and the Sous chef are excellent...

Watched the Power of the Dog. Looks and sounds amazing, but doesn't add up to a complete whole and the plot(as it is) seems to rely very heavily on at least two massive coincidences

Kermode described Clooney as a solid film maker and I think that sums up this film. It's nothing special but done well. I would say the first half is much better, I could have watched the young boy and uncle for much longer though the meeting the girlfriend's parents scene is very good
