Root the captain is unconvincing, but quite simply who else has a nailed time place to do it? I don't know if he just wants to still be one of the lads, doesn't impose himself, imposes himself too much - whatever it is, where his batting is exemplary his captaincy is wanting. Kohli's personality...
At 8 down, they were heading toward defeat. Bumrah and Shami trying to save the game, but despite batting with that pressure on their shoulders, we decide to give them a load of verbals, they forget about the pressure on them and get fired up, and England's tactics turn into schoolboy stuff at...
Weak minded. From the moment we won the toss and decided to protect our batting. Root and Anderson are papering over HUGE failings of this side and squad.
If not the worse day in England's Test cricket history, it was certainly the worse couple of hours I can remember in a long time with bat and ball. The hour bowling at Shami and Bumrah followed by the next hour or so batting was simply horrific in cricket terms. A proverbial self destruction.
If only this was unbelievable.
Unfortunately completely believable.
Why on earth did we engage a war of words with Shami and Bumrah...when you can't back it up? New ball in our hands, shut up, bowl fast and straight. Instead wind them up and try to bounce them out. Such poor mentality and...
Not just let them off the hook, it's a bit embarrassing at the same time. Gave out all the verbals to these 2 40 runs ago and they're making us look a right bunch of *****. :censored:
The chance of a win has gone imho.
With the speed our openers score at the only chance we have is if we lose a couple of wickets, and if we do that we'll almost certainly shut up shop.
Looking at the bowling almost feels like we're playing for a draw already.
Whenever Buttler has had words with someone when in the field, he always looks like he needs his mummy with him when he then has to go out with his bat...
But you only win 50% of your tosses, so if most teams bat first, then if for a portion of your toss wins you bowl, then you'll likely bowling first more than you bat first. So not sure where your default comment comes into it, because you only get the choice in half your matches.
Sorry, I watched the whole thing, I just didn't log in to NSC. I can send you my whatsapp messages to a mate if it helps, besides, isn't 2.30pm only 4hrs after the toss? :)
There were clouds and a bit of moisture, but regardless I think I've stated in detail while mentally it wasn't...
1 min after the toss, there is an adage about deciding to bat for a reason. If we had a fully firing bowling and batting line-up I'd agree with you 100%, we don't in either department so the call wasn't justified imho. Don't make a call like that just because you're worried about your batting -...
Of course, but you don't help yourself in a game when you're up against it if you also go against statistics and whatever else. I always think that if you are on top of your game, yeah, make decisive toss choices, because winning a toss and bowling basically takes all the pressure onto your...
This is a HUGE first innings score already given a) overcast all weekend, b) pitch only going to get worse and likely turn.
Statistics don't like. Hard to win a test match at Lords when you don't bat first. Hubris to give that up when you win the toss.
