[Politics] The government is urging children to sing this song on June 25

My assessment is not based on criticism but rather the level of vitriol and hyperbole. The only comparative in recent times is the reaction to Tony Blair which was also ludicrously OTT but explained by the wars he waged and consequent loss of life. I’m sure he would have copped it for this daft...

I have no interest in discussing it because it has been decided. I have accepted the result and have moved on. Unfortunately, many people are still bitter and express that feeling through other subjects, including one about a song being sung by kids at school. Just browse through the anti Boris...

The accusation of divivisiveness can equally be made in the opposite direction. Ever since the Referendum there has been a hysterical reaction to just about anything done or suggested by anyone who played a part in the Leave campaign. Some of the posts on this thread are downright weird as...

It’s a song. I don’t care either way and nor will the kids as they get half an hour off lessons and take the piss. I’m glad you got that off your chest though.

Hmmm. I think sandals are banned in schools for Health and Safety reasons (for men anyway). Are you sure you aren’t, well, making up bits of your post ?

They would probably forget to invade Abyssinia or some similar schoolboy error :)

We can agree it is a bad song. I would also add a bit embarrassing. No-one is going to get ‘indoctrinated’ by it though. To compare it to Nazi Germany or Communist East Germany is farcical. I think you will find that their songs were backed up by propaganda filled curriculums and teachers...

Asking schools to get involved is not sinister (as suggested by one poster when I scanned back through the thread). It is up to headteachers to decide. Education policy is not administered on Twitter so the Government are not actually involved. They just like the idea and have said so. The...

Thank you. It’s good to have some actual facts although a lot of people are enjoying their fact free outrage.

I had a work colleague in Singapore who was called into school one morning to collect his son. They were quite a rarity amongst expats in that they sent him to a local school. Every morning the kids got in early to sing the national anthem. Apparently my colleague’s kid had been singing with too...
