[Travel] UK Electric Scooter Law... You decide.

Looking forward to seeing the detail on legislation in the Queen's Speech tomorrow.

Looks like an announcement on legalising Electric Scooter use on public roads in the UK is set to be made by the Government in the Queen's Speech on 10th May. Thoughts? My initial thoughts. About time too!

This is set to roll and roll I think. Any original plans of legalising their use in 2021 has been put back until 2022 at the earliest it seems. There's a whole new set of consultations going on now. I still honestly don't know quite where they fit in, in terms of where they should be used and...

It changes to a red light on which ever side you turn the front wheel or lean it over to. A different take on indicators basically.

Check out the lights on this one. The underside lights are quite innovative. Good for commuting in British weather too.

This is the most interesting talk I've seen on bicycle helmet use. I should add btw, I'm a cyclist and always wear a helmet and wouldn't let any of my kids on a bike on our roads without a helmet. But anyway, watch the video if you can. It's a brilliantly reasoned argument.

Why? How about?... If only used on a limited mode. As suggested above by Pint of Ale and a Burger.

Some good ideas there, many of which I agree with. Playing devils advocate for a bit though (and perhaps with my cyclists hat on), when do we require cars to only be available in high vis colours?

Again, when making things compulsory, as in helmets in your case, do you extend that requirement to electric bike users? Compulsory helmets law for cyclists (not just electric) in Australia resulted in a reduction in cycle use. That wasn't the intention of the law.

I'm quite liking this idea. Simple and to the point. Would surely have to be limited to 8mph for pavement use though. And possibly 15.5mph for use one roads, the same as electric bicycles. My biggest concern is how vulnerable it potentially makes the user on the road, given the current lack...

Ok. For use on the road only? Or something else?

Ok. So first bullet point for you? Illegal to be used on public roads. What about use on pavements and cycle lanes?

Rental scheme areas aside. Current UK law is that use of privately owned electric scooters is illegal, except on privately owned land with the owners permission. If you was able to make the laws that made their use legal, in bullet points, what laws would you make? P.S. Yes, I know there's...
