Indeed, my father was in the army and we lived in Africa, Malaya and Germany. This is the aircraft type we flew to Malaya on, a double decker Stratocruiser with a bar (which I wasn’t allowed into!). Also flown on Dakotas. Planes were so much more interesting back then imo
I am old enough to remember when getting a joy ride flight in a Sopwith Camel wasn’t that hard or expensive! Never did it though
As a 10 year old I did get a ride with a bonkers hedge hopper army pilot in a two seater glass fronted helicopter, both terrifying and thrilling at the same time...
Indeed, They had a long run for a plane that soon became outdated. Commenced in 1957 and the last BOAC one was retired in 1975, well into the age of the jetliner
Monchengladbach (saw my first live match there in a pre season friendly vs Arsenal). Also lived in Herford, Bielefeld and Munster. Military father obviously!
I once flew to Wildenrath on a Bristol Freighter. The plane had a problem and on landing we had fire engines running alongside the plane. No drama fortunately but it instilled a still present fear of flying
Thinking about, it could have been Gutersloh not Wildenrath
