No he can win, he should have dismissed the question for what it was - ridiculous!
Possibly Boris didn’t hear the full content of the question. As surely Coates should have been shot down in flames or Coates knows something that Boris didn’t want to answer.
Yet this guy, who has been spot on with his analysis says different for Swale - it is more than possible there are two different time frames involved ..

I've just checked the Swale figures via the BBC website...
Tier 4 hasn't made f all difference in my part of Kent, the numbers here in Swale are as high as before Christmas, just that others have overtaken us, getting worse, not us better!
Agree, despite the commentators saying it, this is nothing like the March shutdown!
Clearly all hopes are pinned on the vaccine roll out and a return to schools after the February half term, by which time we, as a family, will have been shielding for just about a year - as we went into lockdown...
Woah Tiger, I am not doubting the work that CAMHS have done or are doing. I was simply pointing out, in a personal experience way, that they are seriously underfunded and have to set a high bar for assistance, as their resources are stretched, their words to me...
The self harming story I told...
Not trying to score any points, but CAMHS wasn’t fit for purpose long before COVID. When I took my two grandchildren to CAMHS, after referral from our GP, the first question they asked was do they self harm. They almost appeared disinterested once the answer was no... they have been under funded...
Am I not typing very well or are you deliberately misunderstanding me?
My suggestion is a full March 2020 style lockdown, once all the necessary vaccines are available!
I hold out little hope of Boris delivering on his promise of extremely vulnerable vaccinated by mid February...
No, I’m not a lockdown supporter, per se.
My belief is we should have got the vaccine situation sorted, so the actual vaccines are in hand, not just “promises” of more to come, then a full lockdown - like March (which this won’t be) - at that point we should have brought in the military and...
Equally he didn’t say schools WOULD close either, he just fudged and dithered around the question - to be fair to him, in true politician style.
He should have had the balls to tell it like it is and not leave 100s of headteachers and thousands of staff in limbo...
Similar to the point when I started shouting at the TV when he was on the Andrew Marr show!
I can’t make up my mind whether Johnson is incredibly thick, Jim Hacker style, or he just thinks the English public are incredibly thick?
Having the grace to change your mind is an asset in all walks of life, intransigence is to be abhorred...
However, only changing your mind when EVERYONE has told you you are wrong is not a sign of leadership and most definitely not a sign of strength.
