The judge who awarded the leave to appeal.
prisoners cannot just appeal, they have to be given leave (permission) to appeal.
Then three appeal judges will look at all the evidence if the appeal is granted.
A judge decides if a criminal is given leave to appeal. It’s not automatic like a prisoner stamping their foot saying it’s not fair.
In this situatio, as Clapham has said, it is mainly circumstantial, but that doesn’t mean she’ll win. It just means three appeal judges will look at the evidence...
I don’t think victims feel cheated. As the barrister pointed out, some defendants actually stare at the families, make gestures at them, or pull faces.
Some patients of Harold Shipman refused to believe he was capable of killing his victims. His charm and friendly manner, willingness to visit patients at home, were all part of his ‘plan’.
Frankly, yes. Have you read the analysis by the barrister?
What I would want, is for the defendant to be taken into a room where the judge can be seen, and the sentence very audible so they have to listen to it, and no minimum wage security guard gets injured trying to force the prisoner...
It rarely happens and isn't a major problem compared to millions of us suffering from sewage in the sea, or climate change etc.
It could even be classed as posturing for a populist opinion.

We spoke to the lead consultant in the unit - who first raised concerns about Letby - and examined hospital documents. The investigation reveals a...
I agree. I watched a recent documentary on Harold Shipman, and how he groomed his patients with kindness, and that nobody would believe he was capable of what he did. That's how he got away with it for decades,
I have read it, and immediately thought of Allit who is locked up in Rampton. Alleged killing of babies is such a horrific crime, that I didn’t feel I could start a thread on it.
