It’s a dark and heavy subject. But important to talk about. So thank you for the link.
It’s very misunderstood and people, including medical professionals simply can’t believe a mother who presents as so caring could actually be harming their own child.
My abuse was only stopped when...
The MbP is of course debatable. In most cases of MbP the perpetrator “displays” their crime in order to gain sympathy and martyrdom. Without admitting to the crime, of course.
Who knows. I think it’s one of those cases that will be studied for years with no conclusion .
As someone posted...
I should think you’re right. Whatever anyone feels about the woman, the prison system is not going to want to deal with a murder in prison. Which is what would likely happen were she allowed within arms reach of a lifer.
I suspect there’s elements of Munchausen-by-Proxy syndrome in her mental landscape.
As I have talked about on here before so I won’t go into it again but I was a victim of my Mother’s MbP and it took over a decade before any doctor even questioned what she was doing. My mother was also a nurse...
Just read a few of the family statements. Couldn’t finish them.
I didn’t realise her attempts at murder had left a number of children severely disabled for life.
Too upsetting to contemplate on first reading.
Being mentally ill doesn’t necessarily exonerate you of having capacity. Which is the crucial element. Was she in control of her faculties when she committed the murders?
The fact she tried to hide her crimes and she evolved her method over a number of murders suggests that she probably had...
Would any mitigating circumstances have to be declared before trial? Or can it be introduced on appeal?
I feel sorry for the solicitor that had to defend this woman.
I think autopsies are performed on young people or those that die suddenly, as a matter of course.
Given that most of these poor babies were doing well and then suddenly crashed, I would have imagined an autopsy would have been a definite.
I don’t know for sure though. When my brother suddenly...
I wonder the same.
I’ve seen a few documentaries that touch on how the parents of high school shooters cope.
Most move far away and start new lives.
Some go into police protection.
But they likely never live a normal life again.
Just goes to show how many lives are devastated by murder.
