No. But when a leadership for a main party is tanking it needs to take responsibility and act in the best interests of their party. That's how leadership works.
I would argue they are not idiotic and narrow-minded to hold those views, but it would be idiotic and narrow-minded to not resign once it was clear (as it was long before December) that that leader cannot win their party an election.
