At the risk of going off at a tangent, Tahir Ali is not a member of the shadow cabinet and therefore cannot be sacked as he's only an MP. It's not possible for Starmer to sack a member of parliament
(sigh) Momentum represent fewer than 10% of Labour members (and they've had people leave the party since Starmer was elected - it's a really, really small part of the party
Probably a bit of both
Yes, there are lot of disgruntled Corbynistas out there. Strangely, I don't think he'd have been much more vocal if he'd been leader either - it was a common complaint from the non-Corbyn wing of the party that he wasn't aggressive enough
But, given the difficulty that the government is in, Labour have been remarkably quiet (and, remember, Parliament is sitting this week so what other opportunities are there to make a noise?)
If you go back to my original post on the subject, I said that there are lot of tweets from people...
He'd have problems doing that ...Black Rod is a woman
I don't think there's any doubt that Brexit will go badly - even Farage said there'd be a short term hit (and that was before Covid-19 and the vote for the most incompetent PM in modern times). The question is how deep will it be and how...
There's been too little coverage of this aspect of the whole Cummings affair. It does seem that Braverman has little understanding of the AG's role as an independent legal authority. In a sane world I suspect that this would, indeed, be a resigning matter, but in the looking glass one we find...
I heard that, it was very interesting.
It was also the first time I'd heard DAG's voice; I always thought he'd have a posh voice and was really surprised to hear the Brummie accent
Johnson's cabinet consists nearly entirely of third-rate politicians - most of them wouldn't even have become junior ministers under Thatcher. Gove, however, is an exception - he's clearly able (even if he is as conniving as they come); Sunak may be another - I don't really know much about him -...
I certainly think it's true that Cummings will not resign/be sacked (for the moment anyway), I don't think it's true that the only thing that Johnson has to fear is Cummings being charged.
He's going to be in a very awkward place if there's a second wave of infections in two or three weeks...
Three of those were referring to Johnson's apperance at the daily briefings (his first for some time). And after such a set-piece experience, it would look odd for the LOTO not to make a comment.
So, apart from that, one other comment from Starmer in a week in which the PM and the Tory party is...
He hasn't though - although I've seen lots of complaints that he's not been exploiting it. Personally, I think he's doing the right thing, he's giving Johnson plenty of rope. If Labour starts getting too heavy, the Tories will all regroup to turn their attention to Labour, at the moment there...
It does stagger me that so many people are trying to make connections between Brexit and Covid-19. Ditto 5G and CV-19 - shops must be running out of tin-foil given the number of conspiracy theorists out there
Not all bishops do, but as it happens, the bishops of Worcester and Newcastle do (there are five permanent members and 21 Lords Spiritual who are appointed according to seniority)
It wasn't the cabinet, he was sacked as a shadow arts minister (not shadow cabinet) for lying about his affair...
Douglas Ross wasn't a cabinet minister - he was an under secretary of state.
While I don't recall anyone resigning as a minister and leaving the party at the same time, Rory Stewart resigned as a cabinet minister end of July last year and left the Conservative Party just ten weeks later.
Not...
It looks crass - it makes the MPs (from both parties) look like muppets. They're supposed to be intelligent, independent thinkers, surely they could find their own words?
I also don't think the opposition parties meeting tomorrow to think of ways to put pressure on Johnson is a good idea, it's...
This is something else. The Spectator (former editor, a certain ABdeP Johnson) is piling on now
First the Mail, now the Speccy - it should slowly be dawning on the government that this isn't a load of lefties moaning but people of all sides of the political divide are outraged
EDIT: I forgot...
