[Politics] People who have impressed/surprised you so far through this crisis (and who's been crap)

I usually like Laura, she's good. But it has to be said, she's been absolutely shithouse through this crisis. There are things that the government need taking to task about obviously. But the standard of questioning from pretty much every journalist has been w***. Pesto has done ok, but I'll...

If you run a small business (with the notable exceptions mentioned previously) then you would be lumping him in with the shambolic quote. It's very easy to talk the talk........

Good. And I hope the job retention scheme works. It's massively important. Just spare a thought for the millions left with nothing.

It's a grant so don't worry about that. With millions of businesses facing financial oblivion, I wouldn't feel uncomfortable at all about using what is basically a tiny sum to keep yours afloat. I think it's brilliant when all I'm doing for the most part is dish out bad news.

That's great. Nice to hear some good news for a bloody change! Begs the question, why couldn't they have done similar with all small businesses? I've spent the last hour having to explain to a maintenance guy why he's not getting any money yet.......and will then get not much. He's going to...

It's being run by HMRC. That's all you need to know.

Ah. You're in retail or hospitality? Plus you only don't pay rates because of the SBRR scheme?

Yes, business grants for those paying rates are the only scheme that's actually been set up yet. Nothing so far re the 80% for employers or the self employed. You're lucky!

There's not any way of putting a claim in yet. They are still setting up the systems. This is just one reason why a universal income plan would have been much more simple and useful.

Completely agree Notters. Good point re Javid. Sunak was helicoptered in because he's a yes man. Grudging respect for Sajid for not being. And again, all those praising him, he's currently paid people the grand sum of £0.

Amazing that so many people are putting Rishi on a pedestal. 1. No money has come from the government to any employer yet. 2. There's no mechanism to claim the 80% for employers yet. 3. Self employed? Well that depends. No money til June though even if you qualify. 4. How do we actually...

That's our local weatherman. For Yorkshire, but he's Welsh, and very camp. Imagine. But he's popular, because he's a sound lad. Had no idea that he was a class drummer though. Love it.

I've only seen Starmer actually interviewed (rather than soundbites and subterfuge) by Marr. Which is a tough test. I thought he was superb. I think a lot of people are still believing the press hype. He went out of his way to NOT slag off the government and to point out that they were all...

So, anyone who's been impressive in your opinion. Particularly someone who you previously thought was completely useless. Doesn't just have to be politicians but..... Matt Hancock. Always saw him as a wet lettuce of a man, completely unsuited to his role. He has, as they say, stepped up to...
