I had exactly the same thought - I'd assumed it was a newish building.

I left it at the Amex next to my Albion calendar

The lack of parked cars is probably something younger people would struggle to believe these days.

I know this is the wrong place but posting here as those who regularly visit this thread would appreciate it. Talking Pictures TV showed a film from 1950 called Sussex Fortnight where Raymond Glendenning was cycling around the area from the Arun Valley to Chichester. If you want to see a...

One of those rare occasions where the new building generally looks better (ignoring the modern shopfronts)

The Tesco shop there is interesting. I assume they must have bought up the neighbouring shops to build the old supermarket which is now the Komedia. I don’t really remember the supermarket but used go there in the 80s when there were some great second hand record places in the building.

"The workmen eventually succeeded in shoring up her gaping gable end" - there is an euphemism you don't hear very often!

What was that building next to the church - it looks art deco-ish and thought it might have been the ice rink but then I also thought that was further up the hill

I remember them as being a huge space with big wooden doors on the cubicles that you had to put 2p in to open? I also seem to remember that there was that horrible public toilet stench due to a lack of ventilation. If the tiles are all in place, it would be amazing to clean them up and open up...

Nah, they’re just reading the opening times on the door to see when they can pop in for a sneaky port and lemon.

The Tamplins Ales advert looks like it might be giving directions to the Maltsters Arms. There was a Maltsters Arms in Montague Place which closed in 1960 according to the Closed Pubs website.

This thread is so dangerous to your time. Seeing that picture sent me down a rabbit hole trying to find out who Arthur H Cox & Co were to have such a grand building.

You can see why the building on the end is no longer there! Interesting to see Dockerills there, only a hundred yards or so from their current home.

Interesting to see the church dominating the skyline in the old photo which is now something many people probably don’t even notice is there.

They had a shop in Worthing as well. Bought my first clock radio from there with my first Xmas’ tips from my paper round.
