Interesting article - and some great photos! - on the BBC website today about Brighton's secret tunnels. I'm sure I can't be the only one old enough to remember the grotty old downstairs station toilets with the mosaic floor in the passage that led to Trafalgar Street...
There's a big number 25 on the Currys sign in the old photo. So unless they've renumbered the street, which I guess is always possible, it's on the site of a fitness centre called New Fit Studio that occupied 24-25 York Place until it was put up for sale recently
Always struck me walking past that building that it looked very pub-shaped. I wonder if it was a pub before it was a set of hairdresser & newsagent shops?
For younger viewers, there used to be a little ice rink where that white hotel in the third photo now stands. Used to take my kids skating there in the late 80s/early 90s. Can't quite remember now, but I think it may have succumbed to a classic Brighton mystery fire
Seem to recall that when the new shirts appeared in the Queens Road shop 'a friend' used to always just grab the biggest size on the rack. Including one time a 5XL :blush:
There was a cinema there right up until the early 80s when it was made into a Burger King. Right up til then, the manager used to come out on to the stage in a dinner jacket and introduce the film :lol:
When Burger King first opened, there was a cinema room out the back where they'd show kids...
