The bridge had gone by the time I started at the junior school in 1974. And the buildings had gone too. Was there a fire? By the mid 70s, it was just a cleared site.
To cross the road, we had to walk up to the hospital to use the zebra crossing (or risk a beating by crossing the road)
Yes. A sort of clangy clingy noise.
Edit: I couldn't find the noise, but there is a fascinating (?) rabbit hole to head down when you look for ball noises online - https://www.pond5.com/search?kw=plastic-ball&media=sfx
The little girl carrying the ball up the hill and then dropping it. I can still remember the smell of those thin, cheap plastic footballs on a hot day. And when they broke (as they did very quickly) cutting it in half and wearing it like a hat. Was I the only one?
My first school. Walked down from Reigate Road. Some days via Dyke Road and the gate on Coventry Street, other times via the bridge on Highcroft Villas.
I recall Manny Frimpong leaning over the wall from his house, that backed onto the playground.
Loved that school.
Does anyone have pictures of the shop that used to be at the north end of Reigate road on the corner with The Drove. It was opposite what was the off licence on Reigate road and across The Drove from the Hovis bakery and a few other shops.
