The supermarkets could easily programme their tills to identify this behaviour (if a debit / credit card and or loyalty card is used when paying) and stop this at source by refusing the same transaction 2 days running. But they won't. They'd far rather spend their time sending me emails telling...
The route cause of the shortages was stupid, selfish people panicking and buying way, way more than they required. Had they simply bought what they regularly bought - as they were emplored to - then the supply chains would have coped fine and there would have been enough to go round for...
From data generated by loyalty cards the supermarkets MUST know who is bulk buying, based on their normal spending patterns. (You can guarantee that the majority of these hoarders will be using their Club Cards etc every time they strip the shelves).

But who needs x3 boxes of washing tablets and x3 bottles of fabric conditioner on one visit? I couldn't even get ONE.
