Unfortunately those making the noise seem to forget that at the time the Cold War was under way and NASA was very much in league with the military.
So as much as these other people push their silly ideas on the subject NASA were never going to select people from anywhere but their own military...
Well naturally they would be almost entirely men of European backgrounds given that's who developed the technology that lead to the achievement.
So we can't celebrate things Europeans did now?
Thousands of people whose names will never be known worked on those projects and made them a success.
They haven't been written out of the story, they were just not to the forefront.
