[Travel] Cycle lanes - good for the environment, congestion, health and the economy

It's on the other Brighton Seafront cycle lane thread!

The problem with the route is where it's bad, it's so unsafe, that you end up grateful for a bit of different coloured tarmac. Public transport users, cyclist, pedestrians shouldn't be 'settling' for what is essentially cast offs as twice the space is taken up by 1/10th of the people.

[Travel] Cycle lanes - good for the environment, congestion, health and the economy

I know you all know this already but tough poop I'm going through it again. Upon our arrival in Brighton today our journey around town was thus:- - Walked up Ship Street from the seafront against a dozen or so white vans. (obviously) - Walked Dukes Lane. (obviously) - Walked across Middle...

And having cycled to and around Brighton today it's almost criminal, and certainly negligent, that Brighton doesn't looked like this now. Hasn't looked like this for the best part of 20 years. and still won't look like this in 20 years time:-

This tweet template is normally the preserve of our American cousins. It's sad to see a UK number plate. 1288078858856599552

Wow this has taken a long time to realise. Cycling into Brighton, from the King Alfred. Where the paths diverge, cyclists north of the greensward pedestrians south, why the hell is the northern path split again between cyclists and pedestrians? There's a huge, wide, promenade 20 yards away.

On that note can you two take your name calling and hair pulling elsewhere. I appreciate nothing new is being said here, esp by me. But even if you're not bored of this 'how many flights do you take?' circle of nothing (I'd be amazed if you weren't) I'm pretty sure everyone else is, so...

It's the noise that gets me, I can't believe we're welcoming that back.

That's the bit most motorists overlook. The biggest lobby for a designated secure cycle network should be motorists, they are the ones that benefit most*. * Assuming you take, financial, physical health and mental well-being out of the equation.

It's so annoying as this 'utopia' isn't just within reach we've been swinging it around like a baton, that we're just about to drop. In my vicinity, a month ago there were more bikes than cars, on the road. That's no longer the case. My local Halfords has 10 bikes where it usually has over a...

I totally agree. Hence the usual caveat of 'IF it's done properly'. Anything like this has to be done properly with all road users catered for as an ongoing process. My fear is this is 1 sign, a bit of paint, a few bollards and crack on. Everybody is pee'd off with the end result being 'well...

[Travel] Cycle lanes - good for the environment, congestion, health and the economy

The desire to cling onto something that doesn't work because it's what's always happened is amazing. I was of the opinion that cities (Brighton) should close off to traffic one Sunday a month. With a view to doing it every Sunday in the summer, over time. I always felt that would be the best...

[Travel] Cycle lanes - good for the environment, congestion, health and the economy

No I don't, I'm a sporadic visitor as I don't find the city at all inviting. If, what is only a dream, ever were to become a reality (don't worry it never will) and Brighton did free itself from it's dependency on cars it would instantly become considerably more appealing. But as said it's...
