I'm fairly sure that's a misleading impression.
In the image posted above, you can literally see the thread of the fabric running from the 'panel' area, down into the white stripes below.
No debate.
You say that, but if that same kit were released today, all of the following 'flaws' would have been raised on this thread:
1. Why can't we have stripes on the back?
2. Why isn't the badge centred on a stripe?
3. Why isn't the Nike logo centred on a stripe?
4. Why is the Nick logo black?
5. Why...
The thing with a collar, is the conflict between what actually works for the players (or people wearing them to play their own kick-about football) and what looks best for the shirts when worn as leisurewear.
100% of players would NOT want a collar, whereas those wearing it to the pub, might...
Would be terrific. However, it would HAVE to be adidas, and they would HAVE to agree to use the proper trefoil logo, not the rubbish modern triangle thing.
Just my opinion, but...
1. People getting really excited about the kit launch (and the the kit design) is a little perplexing.
but...
2. People getting really irate / whiny about the people getting excited about the kit launch (and the the kit design) is really odd.
