I came down to Eastbourne aged 18, in 1989, from Yorkshire. I had a thick Yorkshire accent and I got ripped to pieces at my new workplace! "Eh up lad, where's yer flat cap" along with "where's yer pigeons?" with raucous laughs from all concerned were a daily shout.
I shrugged it off, simple...
