As you work/worked for National Rail, Ernest, I was never given that option of PAYING the penalty fare. My brief found this outrageous and gave them a real rollicking.

At first I gave them my old address but they checked it on their system - it didn't match so the main instigator who was aggressive and intimidating made me shit myself. When you're in hot water over something that can lead to a £1,000 fine and even jail, it got pretty...
I was never given the option of paying a penalty fare, which I would have done without hesitation.
Instead they took down my name and address and told me I could be going to court. Nice.
I got taken to court for not having the right train ticket. It dragged on for months and lead to severe stress along with grieving for a girl I loved at the same time. How I got through it I don't know.
Some inspectors are absolute frigging ars€holes, who look for targets when they're in a bad...
