My single biggest regret in life as well. I started a program some years ago to replace them all. I have most of them now.

Music is an endless seam that I’ll never be able to exhaust. There’s new music ahead, still plenty of undiscovered old music behind me, and new genres to explore to the sides. It does make life wonderful.

Indeed. We bought a small, but new, radio cassette player. The wife got it off Amazon I think. I have just looked and it seems you can also buy cassette desks as hifi components; range seems limited though. I had a couple back in the day, Technics and a Sharp I think. I remember having to clean...

They can be, but mine’s a really old entry level model. I just looked at the one you mention, very nice. Mine is nothing like that. This said, my set up sounds good to my ears and has lasted. My speakers must be 25 years old now.

Regarding cassettes I have accumulated quite a collection as Sacred Bones provide a mixtape with every album sent via their subscription service. I bought a little tape player to listen to them.

It’s good, nothing spectacular though. Project turntable, cheap Denon amp and Kef Q35 speakers. I had planned to upgrade when we moved into the new apartment but for various reasons haven’t done so yet. I have my heart set on a Clearaudio concept turntable.

I am now up to 100% of my albums apart from the Total Kompakt sampler which I still buy on CD every year. I buy more than 40 albums though. My Sacred Bones subscription yields around 12 alone. I am really chuffed that there is a new Rough Trade opening to serve the EU nations right here in...

When I first read “but she has no system” I immediately thought you meant hifi system ie you wouldn’t let her use yours and she didn’t have one of her own. I also thought, harsh, but fair and understandable.

I love your enthusiasm. How have you “reorganised”? When me and the, now wife, moved in together we planned to combine and share everything. We hit a problem when it came to combining our substantial CD and vinyl collections. One, I’m rather precious and protective of mine. She is of hers. Two...

The comeback has been incredible. I hear you regarding sound etc, but also they way I interact with vinyl is totally different to CD. I am careful, protective when viewing, using and storing and I study the whole package and even look at the vinyl itself. This is the respect it deserves but...

I started buying vinyl when I was about 8 or 9 (parents were very much into music) but stupidly I sold it all when I was a uni student; a few years after the birth of CD I decided to switch and sold my entire collection. The plan was to re-purchase choice albums on CD, which I did. I came to...

I’m Spotify myself but it’s the same principle of algorithms throwing up new and interesting stuff. I also have a decent collection of vinyl and CDs and continue to add to this; for the past few years I have switched exclusively to vinyl though. Whilst I buy a lot of vinyl from stores, I like a...

The “open new avenues” line resonates with me a lot. The beauty of music is that there’s always more out there, it never ceases. This might be old stuff we’ve never come across or completely new stuff...or both. This is why, at 51, I am still enjoying it and probably consuming more than ever...

I like a lot of stuff both old and new and I go through phases. I am listening to some of the new jazz stuff like Comet is Coming, Sons of Kemet and Moses Boyd. I subscribe to Sacred Bones label as I love most of the stuff they release. I like electronic stuff and have been listening to Yves...

Being nosey, what sort of bands etc do you listen to? No agenda...just curious.

But you’re overlooking the fact a lot of new releases are on vinyl. I buy the vast majority of my music on vinyl these days-sometimes from the artist at the gig. I don’t feel anyone is being conned. And some of the releases I get are just gorgeous to look at let alone play.

Whilst I still buy vinyl I can’t say I know much about hifi. But. I do frequent a lovely bar which is built around specialist equipment. This is the actual Audio setup: Bowers & Wilkins DM70 speakers, Quad 33 Preamp, Quad 303 Amp, Micro-Seiki DQX-500 turntable, AT VM740ML Cartridge. I took...
