The Albion and Hudd fans on Mounie’s side, mistakenly:
Bring intent into it - where’s the evidence that Mounie intended to foul Bissouma? Early in this thread, I quoted Graham Poll, who explained that intent is now a complete irrelevance in football laws other than for handballs.
Or they...
After Wagner’s crocodile tears, they had to go through the motions of appearing to challenge the misjustice of the century.
Inaction would’ve been telling.
Timewasters.
Hudd and Mounie will lose.
Mounie endangered the safety of an opponent with studs up, no where near the ball, impacting the knee/upper shin and drawing blood.
Case, Horton, Whiteside could also play brilliantly, they would’ve succeeded in any era within whatever the rules were.
Vinny Jones, John Fashanu and Henry Hughton would have lost the key, snidey element of their game.
“SERIOUS FOUL PLAY
A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play.
Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs...
Mounie was sent off because it was a straight red offence under 21st century rules and interpretation. Excellent refereeing. Zero grounds for a frivalous appeal.
Graham Poll emphatically cleared up the subject on intent last year:
“Fifteen years ago it wouldn't have been a red card offence because it used to be that it had to be intentional. But now that's taken away.
“You've made the intent by leaving your foot that high and so you have to live with...
I do understand your view. But the game has moved on, and it’s a straight red challenge.
My personal opinion, for what’s it’s worth, is that Mounie was a snide and wanted it to leave a little on Bissouma. Goes on every match with studs mysteriously always exactly landing on the instep or achilles.
Intent is the not the deciding factor, otherwise reds would be rare. No need to copy and paste the modern rules yet again in this thread, but it’s all there in black and white.
No need for law changes. Great refereeing. Jenas and others have called it right.
A minority have read this wrong, believing that the less that full throttle kick, makes it not a red.
Joke comment. Just 5 minutes later on MOTD they showed Capoue getting a red for getting to the ball first with his studs down on the ball and turf, and no malice.
