JD, New Order and The Cure, I couldn't live without them (not really, but I'm so glad two bunches of naturally talented teens got together in Crawley and Manchester).
The Smiths, The Jam, etc not far behind, imho.
That was my distraction yesterday 'WFH', I let YouTube's algorithms take me on a musical journey and it eventually came up with that incredible album.
I still adore the music of Joy Division/New Order. Goosebumps every time if Atmosphere or Love Will Tear Us Apart unexpectedly get played on the radio. I was far too young to see JD live, but the greatest gig I ever went to was New Order at Portsmouth Guildhall before they started playing at...
Love The Smiths, and many Cure songs.
What's incredible is how young Marr and The Cure members were when they already writing great songs - in their late teens. All without classical/stage school/record company backgrounds. Just naturally talented kids, creating with mates at home.
