My flight to Florida gave me the opportunity to catch up on some films I missed this year...
Hereditary - really enjoyed this, quite different/unexpected in places.
Leave No Trace - again, really enjoyed - wasn't sure where it was going to go, and thought the acting great in it.
Tag - at...
Gave the Spider Man Multiverse film a try today, and turned out to be one of the most enjoyable films of the year for me! Loved the animation style, bundles of humour in there, some knowing nods to the endless reboots/retelling of the same old story. There's a small tribute to Stan Lee and Steve...
Many thanks - regular listener to the Kermode/Mayo podcast and was going to check out his review (couldn't remember what he said about it) and you've saved me looking. Top stuff, @IsItPotG.
Quite a coincidence - came back onto the thread to get a view on this, and saw this very post. Am on a long flight later this month and it is one of the choices onboard (Virgin Atlantic). Might also give BlackKKKlansman a bash as that's on there too.
Saw it on Monday with Mrs Dolphins, at the IMAX in Crawley. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed it! Once you get past it not actually being them, the actors acquit themselves really well. It's a fascinating look at their story, abbreviated of course to fit in the running time, and takes things up to...
Saw First Man yesterday, via 2D IMAX at Crawley. Thought it a wonderful film which really wasn't that much about the space race - and is really a film focused on the very human story of Armstrong coming to terms with grief. Would be interested to know how close to the real story it is; obviously...
Saw Deadpool 2 today, at Crawley IMAX. Really enjoyed it, lots of typical humour, some good cameos at various points, lots of blood and violence... It's obviously not the most intellectual of movies, but that's not what it is trying to be.
Oh and for those who are going to see it, there are...
Totally agree. It's not the most intellectually challenging of films but it isn't aiming at that. Very well done, good humour in it, action all very well done. The very beginning did take me by surprise though!
Really enjoyed it and TBH enjoyed Dwayne's turn in Jumanji too. Think he's perfect...
Have removed the spoiler in this quote - I guess a reminder to all of us to please be careful about revealing too much relating to new films people will be going to see... ta!
Saw A Quiet Place today and loved it! Really nicely paced, very tense, perfect length, very well acted... Pleased that the bloke with the noisy bag of popcorn quickly ceased his noise (suspect he might have been carefully extracting then sucking the popcorn after a while!) and the two old dears...
Saw Three Billboards on Wednesday night flying back from NYC. Thought it was really good, nicely paced, great acting although thought the ending let it down.
Also saw I, Tonya which I thoroughly enjoyed, and the dialogue made me chuckle quite a bit - this confused my missus who watched it...
Really enjoyed Ready Player One - good cast, decent enough script, action was clear (none of that Transformers crashy bangy fight scene nonsense where you can't make out who is attacking who). Loved Rylance channelling Professor Denzil Dexter in his scenes, and as someone with a port wine...
Watching it next month on a flight to NYC...Virgin Atlantic have already listed their films for next month, and some good ones there. So, I'll let you know in a couple of weeks!
Saw Tomb Raider today, and thought it an entertaining romp. Alicia Vikander lends more realism to the role than we've seen previously, and seemed to suit the role. It's a subtly different Lara Croft to the previous digital and real-life depictions. As expected, there are some decidedly Indiana...
Another day, another film... Unsane. Probably best known for being shot on iPhones, and stars Claire Foy as someone who seeks a little bit of counselling due to a episode of stalking. She moves cities, yet she sees the stalker again...the counselling session doesn't go quite to plan, and she...
You Were Never Really Here today - good stuff, dark, slightly convoluted (in a good way - a directoral decision) and quite brutal in places, although a bit like Psycho, you think you see more than there really is. Joaquin Phoenix is great in it. Amusingly enough, looked like someone had used the...
Did a bit of a double bill yesterday - albeit first film, at Crawley Cineworld, and the second at Brighton's one.
First up was Game Night, which was surprisingly funnier than I expected and well paced. An entertaining watch, some bits were very obvious but a decent enough ensemble cast...
