So. Deliciously air-conned matinee of A Prayer Before Dawn at Dukes at Komedia. Joe Cole (no relation) asked to be written out of Peaky Blinders because he didn't want to be typecast as violent and aggressive. So what does he do? Ditch the Brummie accent and pop up here in the lead role as...
Saw a brief clip and interview with the lead actor of A Prayer Before Dawn on - of all things! - the Tim Lovejoy cooking thing whatever it's called last weekend. Looks amazing. Wlll be signing up for next Tuesday's matinee @ Komedia pronto tonto...
So.
Emerged blinking into bright Preston Circus sunlight from the matinee of Hereditary thinking WTF. Fellow film-goer I got chatting to while waiting for the lights to change summed up the film in much the same three letters. As I strongly suspect did just about everyone else who's ever seen...
Genuine question Uncle: did you enjoy The Blair Witch Project? Seems to me - without yet seeing it - that Hereditary may be another such slow-builder. Maybe not suited to bennies munching in-seat pizzas and texting with phones they pathetically assume are completely invisible to other punters...
I hate to doubt your cinematic wisdom Uncle but, in this instance, having read your first sentence above, I don't really have any other option. I've seen the trailer. Multiple events happen. Maybe the movie just caught you on a bad day.
Matinee review to follow sometime soon.
Then you're in luck mate, Anne-Marie Duff plays her mother-in-law :lolol:
Seriously tho, it's a, er, SERIOUSLY sweet film but it's only on at the DoY til Thursday. Look lively - and report back!
So.
Never consciously set out to be a Saoirse Ronan fanboy, but had her marked out as a personal special talent ever since the The Lovely Bones in 2009. She's only 24, and already has a hugely impressive CV under her belt. And hot on the heels of her Oscar-nominated performance in Ladybird...
It would be a real shame if you decided to opt out of this thread Uncle. Don't always agree with your take on some movies (and doubtless vice versa) but I always enjoy reading them. Oh, get yourself down and watch Lady Bird
What with the Official Trailer that gives away the entire plot, and Uncle Spielberg's SIXTEEN minute spoiler that absolutely destroys what may or may not be any remaining magic, think I'll give this ridiculously over-hyped FishMan movie a wide swerve
Bring back Meade's Ball for the...
Agree with your sentiments. All to easy to heap praise on great actors making a good fist of an important historical thing. I'm thinking Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep, Gary Oldman. But in all those cases, it relies a great actor to bring extra resonance to an historical event. With or without...
Seriously, all I'd say is that if you genuinely believe that Saoirse Ronan is a great actress, then go see the film. You won't even think that you're watching an actress, you'll be convinced you're watching a stroppy yet vulnerable 17 year old schoolkid. It's an amazing performance.
