Anna and the Apocalypse Unless I've missed it, it wasn't showing anywhere in Brighton and only appeared to be on twice in Lewes so I popped along to see it at the Depot. Going along there the day after boxing day for an evening showing felt weird. It didn't help that the Depot wasn't...

Interesting to look back at this. Xmen New Mutans was bumped to next year. Fantastic Beast 2 and Ready Player One were disappointing. Hello Again still hasn't beeen released over here. Mary Poppins looks quite awful from the trailers, though has got some decent reviews. I'm more apprehensive...

Creed II Disappointing. It relies too much on nostalgia. Not just the idea of Creed/Drago rivalry, but lots of little lines and callbacks. The Dragos weren't really developed much, and the story was formulaic and predictable. The boxing was movie boxing. Every single punch looked like a...

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald I'm a bit of a harry potter fan, I have the books, audiobooks, ebooks, I've been to several midnight releases (for both the books and the films). So I went along to the midnight opening last night for the latest instalment and I was underwhelmed. It...

Venom I enjoyed this. I even sat through the 20 minutes of end credits + two end credit scenes, one of which was an extended look at the upcoming Into the Spiderverse, which would have been better if there wasn't a full trailer for it before the film. Halloween Knowing this was co-written by...

Mandy Limited chances to watch this in Brighton. I saw a late screening on Saturday at the Komedia and they've added another showing tomorrow night, I believe. A lot has been made about Nic Cage doing his typical over the top thing, and I think that focus is a bit of a distraction. I liked the...

I went to see An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn as part of the discovery series at Dukes at the Komedia. It was a weird one. It's been a couple of days and I'm still not entirely sure how I felt about it. It's from the director of The Greasy Strangler itself a pretty weird film, not least...

I got around to watching A Star is Born this weekend. Eh. It was fine, but there were a few moments that felt like bad adlub taking me out of it, and it felt like Walk the Line did the self-destructive star better.

    [Film] Film 2018

My cinema going has been lax this year. Though I did go to the cineworld unlimited secret screening on Monday, which turned out to be The Hate U Give based on a wildly popular (in America) book about a teen girl who lives in a poor black area, but goes to a private school in a rich, mostly white...

    [Film] Film 2018

Had a double bill earlier in the week of: The Meg I was expecting this to be in the same vein as Deep Blue Sea (1999), but it wasn't quite so silly or self aware. I mean it wasn't as serious as Deep Blue Sea (2011), so it was enjoyable enough, it just missed a bit more toungue-in-cheek, nod and...

Had a triple header today. Teen Titans Go to the Movies! Based on the second iteration of the teen titans tv show, it is very silly. A feast of references, and some deep cuts. A lot of fun if you're a comic book/superhero movie fan. Perhaps not as charming if you don't have that sort of...

I finally got around to watching Jurassic World. Eh. It feels like there's nothing outlandish about how they've chosen to progress the world they've created. It's entirely logical in a world where genetic technology is at the point that they can recreate dinosaurs, and design dinosaurs for their...

Stanley A Man of Variety The idea of the film - Timothy Spall is a long-term inmate/patient at a secure mental health facility that is about to close down, and it is approaching the anniversary of his daughter's death so he wants the chance to spend a few hours at her grave, and this plays out...

    [Film] Film 2018

Saw deadpool 2 recently. It was funny and violent like the first film, but the humour and violence seemed less... substantial, seemed hollow? It felt like they were copying the format of the first with regard to violence and humour, but not the spirit and the reasoning behind it. So it was good...

No, I meant bland and forgettable. But if you like her, maybe you'll enjoy the film or her part in it more than I did

I went to the midnight opening of Solo, and I think I agree with KG, and I'm not sure there'd be much of an argument from the rest of the people at the midnight showing. There were lines that I could tell were meant to be funny, but no one laughed. It felt to me like there was a better story...

As it's a tease and not related to the story, I think it's safe to answer - Captain Marvel. Due to be released next March, starring Bree Larson as Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel

Enjoyed it more on second viewing. The things that bothered me first time are still there, but knowing it in advance allowed me to focus more on the good points. Also, not being tired at a midnight showing for the premiere also helps.
