Why are political debates often between the people who have polar-opposite views and won't convince each other to change, no matter what is said? Humans are weird. That's my contribution.

Why on earth is Trident such a debate? You live on the basis/agreement that no one will fire. If anyone decides to press the button then you're all ****ed anyway. Doesn't matter if you have a 'deterrent' or not.

I think I remember reading once "you can't win election. You can only lose one". Whether you agree with that or not, it seems the tories are doing the best effort to screw up and un-screwable position.

I've read their manifesto and I like the policies. I'll probably vote for them this time. That's as far as my political analysis goes.

I'm curious to see whether anyone here has done one of the many extensive online "tests/Surveys" to see which party they most relate to based on questions around policies? Always interesting to see whether the party you "think" you agree with actually come out on top when you answer questions...

But if we all think they just lie then isn't that quite a bad personality trait? I would count "being a liar" as one of the worst in fact. So what personality traits is it based on? Mannerisms?

Indeed it does. But if you go into the election assuming they are all going to lie anyway then what are you actually basing your decision on? Just a guess? A personality contest? At least if you base it on what they say they'll do, you have legitimate reason to be annoyed when they don't.

When do manifestos usually get published? Perhaps this is unfashionable but I'll probably decide based on party policies.....

Are people already deciding who they would vote for without consulting the party manifestos? I've never quite understood how people can say "Oh, I vote tory". Surely every time an election comes up you assess the promises each party pledges and vote based on who suits your requirements/beliefs...
