Yes, its a dog eat dog world in ponds. Dragonfly larvae also eat tadpoles, as do Diving Beetles, and visiting birds.

We renovated our very overgrown pond in the close season, and now have 5-6 frogs in residence and 2x small spawn globs from about 2 weeks ago - we also have an ongoing colony of newts.
