Well Hughton played him...
And now Stephens is rowing back on his transfer request and says he might be signing a new contract. Well maybe. "we'll talk about it"
That Tweet ?
“The statement I made was never about wanting to leave Brighton. I’ve enjoyed it here, I’m still going to enjoy it this...
Agreed and it would have done but that wasn't the conversation unless you want me to very boringly quote it back at you.. there was a whole bunch of other stuff about "morons", and "hicks" and Stephens having to be sold to fund a striker etc etc.
Was a striker even identified ?
- "we didn't have an £8m bid in for Pritchard." so er, yes. or doesn't that count ?
"have such little pulling power that we can't secure a striker from a lower league"
- er, Baldock.
" draw in an overseas striker"
- er, Hemed. 17 goals.
"there is a disconnect...
Yes. Agreed. But we're not having a debate here about whether 3 strikers, and 5 wingers is enough, whether this is short sighted and a risk. Or even if its other areas of the pitch that will secure promotion. I agree with you that it is a problem and its self evident that the club didn't...
The club have always, like it or not, at the Amex, under Barber (instructed by Bloom) said they will stick to FFP, look for value in the transfer market and have said like other clubs they can't directly compete with Parachute payments clubs.
That still means they can afford to spend a fortune...
Barber didn't say we couldn't "find players" or that they couldn't be "tempted here". He said , as with for example Burnley & Stephens, "our other targets couldn't be prised from their existing clubs " because, as with Stephens, chairman presumably refused to sell and/or they were over priced...
You said quite plainly that Tony Bloom was not prepared to fund a £7-£9m on a striker this summer ...
You've said they weren't despite...
"Brighton and Hove Albion have agreed a club-record fee of £8m with Tottenham Hotspur for Alex Pritchard"...
Sky said here that the package was £8m

Shane Duffy has played in the Prem League,an international, has over 100 appearances in the Championship and spent his summer fending off Italy in the Euros and is still only 24. Seems like the real deal for me despite not having a great game for us in his first 2 appearances. Have you written...
I've no idea what the wages are but you're saying Bloom is explicitly not prepared to spend the required £7-£9mm on a striker (how do you know ?) when three weeks ago he'd agreed a deal to do precisely that.
Or does that not count. ...
We tried to get Glenn Murray in January and several times before that.
The attacking option identified by the club was Alex Pritchard. Not only identified by the club but a fee and terms actually agreed with Spurs and the player. And would have involved TB stumping up £5m-£7m.
Middlesborough lost 9 games last season including home defeats versus Bristol and Forest.
Burnley lost at home to Preston & Reading
We have 40 games left.
I'd wait a few more months for the post mortems...
