Sorry, may have not been clear, my post was two separate points. One that Barton should have been sent off anyway. And two, as Barton didn't get sent off, disallowing the goal made no difference as they wouldn't have pushed on and got the goal that was allowed if the first had counted...
But, if the referee had done his job, Barton would have been sent off long before that. And, whatever they might claim, they wouldn't have pushed forward and scored another goal a few minutes later, which they ended up doing when the goal was disallowed. It would still have ended 2-2
Personally, I think he's lying if he says the linesman told him to give the red card. As you say, why would you defer to someone further away when you are so close to an incident. It makes no sense. He saw the gash, reacted to Ramirez's actions and changed his mind and now won't admit it. Sad...

Absolutely. Three big games and we've had bad decisions from referees in all of them. How these guys are among the top referees in this country is beyond me.
