I routinely do an extra 2-3 hours every day (no overtime paid), it's my choice and nothing more than conscientiousness and wanting to do a decent job really. Wouldn't dream of throwing a sickie to compensate for it, but I expect the firm to recognise the extra contribution.
Are these the 'duvet days' thing ? From what I've head it's very much accepted practice, but up to a limit (5 per year ??). Also heard that holiday allowances are lower though, so kind of balances out......
Agree with this a well. Had man-flu this week, worked from home. No heroics, but ticked over and got some stuff done without infecting and annoying everyone else. The sickie martyrs who feel they are somehow indispensable and have to come, then spend all day moaning about how they should have...
Do get paid sick leave, but have probably taken 2-3 proper sick days in 30 years. Have seen some colossal pisstakers in my time - week off because 'my dog died' being the worst.
