I imagine you can always find a cheaper UK ticket if you're prepared to book well in advance and have a ton of restrictions applied but overall Germany seems cheaper and simpler with a much better service.

Same here. I struggle to think of anything which is not cheaper in Germany bar a few obvious food items like fish and beef.
