I would never have guessed anything like this yesterday evening. I doubt there will be a general election now until 2020 - and then every UK party will have a different leader.
A good night all round. But I really hope that the Conservatives can try and sort out the constitutional issues and give Scotland enough to make them prepared to stay in the union. The Conservatives need to be conciliatory, not triumphant.
I hope the Conservatives make an effort at proper constitutional reform now. Give virtual independence to Scotland, more autonomy to Wales and NI - sort out EVEL and get new boundaries agreed.
The big news is that those who claimed that Lib Dem voters all wanted a left-wing government seem to have been wrong. Lib Dem voters seem to have scattered in all directions.
But if they elected tonight they won't feel they have to do that again.
I hope the Conservatives can genuinely move towards the centre and stop doing stupid hurtful actions like applying the bedroom tax to people who'd lived in a house for twenty years or so. Like most benefit changes it...
My revised plan is now:
- Some sleep after 10.
- Up at 01:15 for the busy part of the night
- Back to bed at four
And hopefully will be able to work the next day!
I'd like to stay up watching it, but I need to work at some point on Friday. Is it better to watch the earlier part: 10 til 2AM, and then sleep for a bit, or to go to be at 11 or so and get up at 4AM?
Which point will have the more interesting results?
